PRIMETIME - Watchmaking in the News - May 2017

In this edition of PRIMETIME, we come back on some auction results seen recently in Geneva, as we witnessed yet another crazy record and this time for a Rolex. The special Reference 6062 once belonging to the Emperor of Vietnam Bao Die fetched a very spectacular price of 5.1 Million Dollars.

In contrast, one of the the most well known timepiece of all time, the Calibre 89 by Patek Philippe, did not reach its reserve price and sends a mixed signal when you compare the complexity and the historical value of these two timepieces. 

But the month of May also enabled us to finally see some new timepieces worth talking about, such as the new Richard Mille RM27-03 or the MB&F HM6 Alien Nation, both being extreme tourbillons in their own category!

We learned that Omega prolonged their Olympics involvement until 2032, just a way of showing the commitment to the Games and the massive visibility that comes with it. But furthermore it naturally prevents any other brands to lure at this for quite a while and we heard that Seiko was making a push for this.
