PRIMETIME – May 2016 – Watchmaking In The News

This edition of PRIMETIME is full of new watches as the month of May has seen the introduction of quite some novelties presented by all the brands. Ranging from a revisited LM1 by MB&F with the collaboration of French designer Alain Silberstein to a spectacular and very complicated Panerai and a new version of the RM 35-02 by Richard Mille, we have been rather spoiled!

We were also very pleased to discover that the Naissance d'une Montre sold by Christie's fetched a very significant price and will help finance the foundation whose goal is to promote the notion of transmission of knowledge when it comes to traditional watchmaking.

On the business side of things, we also noted the acquisition by Japanese group Citizen of the Frederique Constant Group, meaning the Frederique Constant brand, but also Alpina and Atelier de Monaco. Citizen is clearly reinforcing its watchmaking presence in Switzerland as they already own some prestigious names, wether on the manufacturing side, but also on the brand side with Arnold & Son for instance.
