Patek Philippe New Annual Calendar Mechanism

We had the pleasure of meeting Mr Philip Barat, director of watch development at Patek Philippe, who explained to us their new and improved annual calendar mechanism.

This new mechanism has few very smart improvements, encompassed in eight new patents. One of the main change concerns the jump time which has been reduced from one and a half hour on the original version to about 18 minutes on the new mechanism.

Another change has to do with the correctors making this watch "childproof" so to say.

Making it impossible to damage the movement if the corrector is being pushed by mistake while the gears are already in action.

The only thing that can happen is that you can not move the indications, a development probably hinted by the service and repair department.

This new caliber is already on a new watch presented to us with a dual timezone.

The local and home time displayed as well as the calendar jumps are linked to the local time meaning the place where you are. A very smart upgrade of the original caliber.
