Fantasy in “Telling Time”
The methods used for displaying time on watches and clocks, e.g. hands and numerals, were established a long time ago. But what happens when these familiar icons are challenged or reinterpreted? That is the purpose of the "Telling Time" exhibition at the Mudac museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. The curators of the exhibition have selected pieces from artists and designers that express the telling of time in the most unexpected and crazy ways.
For example, one clock displays the length of a person's life on the dial, another has its whole dial turning while its second hand stays still, or a cuckoo clock with the bird brought down by the digital era. The "Telling Time" exhibition also takes us on a voyage through the history of displaying time, through antique watches and clocks lent by museums and brands.
The actual state of the art of contemporary watchmaking is also on display thanks to watches from MB&F, Parmigiani Fleurier and Romain Jerome. The "Telling Time" exhibition runs until the 27th of September in Lausanne, and in 2016 will be held at the Musée des arts décoratifs in Paris.
