Watches & Wonders 2023

Interview with Grand Seiko brand manager Robert Brook on new Tentagraph, SLGA023 "Ushio" diver and two dress watches with exceptional dials.

Grand Seiko this year is expanding its collection of dress watches with sublime hand-made dials made to celebrate "the Nature of Time". Two new models in the most desired colours have been shown at Watches & Wonders.

One is a 72-hour power reserve manual-winding SBGY026 "Hana-ikada" watch in rose gold with a slightly pinkish dial, inspired by the quintessential Japanese culture of cherry blossom.

The other is limited to 50 pieces. Manual-winding Spring Drive masterpiece from the Micro Artist Studio. The engraved motive on the case was inspired by the majestic white birch forest in the height of winter in the North Yatsugatake Mountains.

Grand Seiko is also well-known for pushing some technical limits, and this time the brand came with the Tentagraph as an embodiment of a new dimension for precision. Hosted in 43,2 mm High-intensity titanium case chronograph with 30 minutes and 12 hours is powered by the new Caliber 9SC5, which uses the Caliber 9SA5 as its base. This next generation of Grand Seiko sports watches is the longest-running 10-beat chronograph on the market today. The mean daily rate for the 72-hour power reserve Tentagraph is +5 to -3 seconds per day.
