PRIMETIME - February 2020

Watchmaking in the News.

In today’s PRIMETIME, we naturally come back on the big news of the recent days with the cancellation of the two big watch shows; Watches & Wonders (ex-SIHH) and Baselworld. The situation reached a point where these decisions were simply inevitable but what impact will have on the industry, not only the brand side but also on the supplier side. This remains to be seen, but we know for sure that it will leave some serious damage especially for those who were already struggling, probably accelerating the fate of a few unfortunately.

What impact will this have on the very existence of the shows themselves? Will the fact of exceptionally not hosting these costly events become the norm once people got used not having them anymore. There is a lot at stake now and the big question is will the industry unite or will everyone do their own thing on their side? As much as this could be an opportunity, it might well end up as the perfect excuse not to ask the right questions.

Apart from that, we remain as cheerful as ever regarding this beloved industry and just hope things will turn out ok for as many people as possible.

Enjoy and Viva Watchmaking!
