The Secrets Of The Classic 1966 Collection By Girard-Perregaux

The classic 1966 collection by Girard-Perregaux is one of the most renowned of the manufacture. As already obvious from our reports on Vacheron Constantin’s Patrimony line and Parmigiani Fleurier’s Tonda 1950,, creating and developing a traditional line consists of capturing the essence of a brand before transposing it in its simplest and purest form. We interviewed Stefano Macaluso, product development director, to understand what makes the 1966 collection different and why it is a must-have Girard-Perregaux model today. He also introduced the brand new models with a case made out of steel.

Willy Schweitzer, curator of the Girard-Perregaux Museum, also reveals why the year 1966 – which lent its name to the collection – is so important for the brand. Indeed, at this time the manufacture had one of the biggest research and development departments among manufactures of the time, which allowed it to create a super-accurate movement.
