Carbon Fiber Manufacturing In Watchmaking

Carbon fiber is very interesting in terms of lightness and rigidity. Its density measures 1.5 – in direct comparison to aluminum, which is already very light, at 2,7. For this reason, there are now specialized suppliers for manufacturing not only cases and bezels but also moving movement components.

Julien Stervinou runs Convergence Composite, one of the few companies handling carbon for the watchmaking industry. He has already succeeded in creating hands and elements of a balance wheel. His state-of-the–art facility allows him to also create the same kinds of finishing on carbon as on metal. And it is also possible for him to mix various kinds of materials into the carbon mass. Watch Stervinou tell us about his interesting work.
